Bl. Charles wanted to found a community, but upon his death no one had joined him. Although he lived with the pain of never having any followers, after his death thousands have tried to embody, in myriad ways, his spirituality. All of the communities in his spiritual family call themselves "Little Brothers" or "Little Sisters," followed by another word to distinguish each group. We chose the name of the Little Brothers of the Eucharist in order to mark our adherence to the spirituality of Bl. Charles de Foucauld, and we chose the Eucharist because of the centrality in our lives of Jesus' sacramental presence. The Little Brothers of the Eucharist refers to the men's consecrated group, whereas "Catholic Solitudes" is an association that tends to the material needs of the places of hermitage.
